In Greek mythology, Leda was the wife of the king of Sparta, Tindarus. Zeus was infatuated with Leda and descended from Olympus in the form of a swan, while Leda was walking along the river Eurotas, in order to possess her.
The depiction of this myth was rarely seen in ancient sculpture.
