Sculpture “Erechtheion Acropolis”. Tribune of the Caryatids of the Erechtheion, southwest fragment. The Erechtheion is a Greek temple built in the northern part of Athens (421 and 406 BC) to replace the ancient temple that had been destroyed by the Persians. It is a temple dedicated to the gods Athena, Poseidon, Hephaestus and the mythical king of Athens, Erechtheus. Its name means “he who shakes the earth”, one of the qualities of Poseidon, god of the sea and earthquakes.
