Herodotus (484 – 425 BC) was a Greek historian, father of history according to Cicero. He conceived of history as a personal investigation and exploration of other cultures, including those of the so-called ‘barbarian’ peoples.
He devoted much of his life to travel and made many contributions throughout his life, as, thanks to the knowledge he acquired on his travels, he created theories of other sciences such as geography, ecology and mathematics.
