Description
Reproduction of a high-quality sculpture of Archaic Athena made with molded marble (marble powder with resin). Finished with aging patinas applied with natural earth. Marble and stone textures suggest the touch of an ancient original.
Height: 60 cm.
The sculpture of Archaic Athena that we reproduce is based on an original statue showed in the Acropolis Museum in Athens, dating back to 520 B.C.
The characteristics of Archaic sculptures from ancient Greece are evident, with more depersonalized and hieratic forms. Their beauty is enigmatic and captivating.
Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and the pursuit of areté, the excellence.
Athena was born from the head of the king of the gods, Zeus, as an adult and armed woman. She was the protective goddess of the city of Athens, which dedicated its main temple, the Parthenon, located on the Acropolis, to her. In the temple, there was a colossal statue of Athena Parthenos (“virgin”) created by the great Athenian sculptor Phidias in marble and gold. The temple’s pediments depict two scenes from the goddess’s life: her birth and her dispute with the sea god Poseidon for the patronage of Athens. She also protected Greek heroes such as Perseus and Odysseus. Her attributes include the olive tree, the owl, the helmet, the spear, the aegis, and the shield with the head of Medusa.
Reproductions of sculptures of gods and heroes from Greco-Roman mythology, like this sculpture of Athena, is a special and timeless addition to the decoration of any space. These figures from mythological themes are ideal elements for decorating not only indoor spaces like libraries, living rooms, or offices but also outdoors, adding a classic touch to our gardens, patios, or terraces. When we incorporate these sculptures into the decoration of our home, we create a unique connection between the past and the present. The exquisite nature of these artistic reproductions not only beautifies the environment but also invites reflection on the meaning of classical myths and their cultural heritage that has endured over the centuries.
