Alexander the Great or Alexander III of Macedonia. Alexander’s conquest of the Persian Empire was much more than a simple war episode between Greeks and Persians. The Ancient world was not again the same after the war campaigns of the Macedonians and their allies for the Orient. Alexander was willing to unite the heterogeneous Greek city-states, formerly confronted with Macedonia, in a common company that avoided dissidences. As a legacy he achieved the extension of Hellenic culture to the most remote confines.
