Reproduction of the Roman sculpture of Aesculapius of Pollentia. The Roman Aesculapius, in Greek mythology Asclepius, is the god of medicine and healing. The serpent is depicted in most representations as standing upright in the shape of a crescent moon. In this figure the god is leaning on his left leg, leaving the right leg slightly behind. The right hand is in the attitude of holding a staff and the left hand is resting on the hip. The serpent figure identifies him as Aesculapius.
Found in Pollentia, La Alcudia, Mallorca. Pollentia is an archaeological site of an ancient Roman city in Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Spain).
