Isis and Horus child. Saite period, 7th century BC.
The goddess Isis is the sister and wife of Osiris. She is the deity of love who gives birth to life and the world. Her emblem is the Ankh or Key of Life and she is associated with the moon, ruling the incantations of night magic. She is depicted seated and nursing her son Horus. The Saitic style, to which this piece belongs, was characterised by its expression in small sculptures in which it sought to equal the art of the great ancestors.
