Deconsol (Disconsolation) Josep Llimona (1864-1934).
This is a scale reproduction of the 67 x 76 x 80 cm marble original in the Museu Nacional Art de Catalunya (MNAC). Josep Llimona’s fame is due above all to his treatment of the female nude. This beautiful sculpture, produced between 1903 and 1907, is still part of the period when the classical idea remained, before the cubist and abstract revolution. This sculpture, with its refined naturalism, takes its name from its dejected, melancholic pose. The nude gives great strength to the carving, as well as sensitivity and delicacy. The intimate contact with the barely unworked base gives a mysterious sensation of union and liberation from its place of origin.
