This piece reproduces a relief currently housed in the Prado Museum, dated between 50-40 BC and originating from Hellenistic workshops. The relief depicts a scene of Dionysian ecstasy in which a maenad appears with a thyrsus and a satyr holding a staff in one hand and a cup in the other, both dancing in a ritual of the cult of Dionysus. Between the two characters appears a feline, perhaps a panther or leopard, an animal associated with Dionysus.
