Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 – 1851) was an English painter and the principal representant of the Romanticism; he is considered one of the greatest masters of British landscape painting, whose style led to the founding of the Impressionism. Turner was a Romantic painter interested in the sublime philosophy; portraying the awesome power of nature over the man.
