Gustave Moreau (1826 – 1898) was a French painter, and a precursor of the Symbolism. Moreau’s works are located between the Romanticism and the Symbolism. The world of Moreau is populated by androgynous adolescents and fascinating and perverse women, also it shows a predilection for the monstrous. It is clear his interest in the East, both in the choice of the themes as in the decadent atmosphere of his paintings.
