Confucius (Kung Fu-Tse) was born in the state of Lu, present-day Shantung, China, in 551 BC and died in 479 BC.
He was an important philosopher whose influence over the years gave rise to the so-called Confucianism. Confucianism is fundamentally an ethic and a philosophy of life. Confucius believed in the existence of a perfect cosmic order, which should be imitated in human affairs, achieving harmony of the earth with Heaven, the intelligent force that governs the world.
