Reproduction inspired by the reliquary chest with palanquin found in the tomb of Tutankhamun (New Egyptian Empire, 18th Dynasty, c. 1342 BC – c. 1325 BC).
Anubis is a god of ancient Egypt who is associated with the passage to the afterlife and the judgement of the hearts of the deceased before Osiris. He is also associated with the guide in the dark who accompanied candidates for the mysteries in Egyptian temples.
Among the objects found in Tutankhamun’s tomb by the English archaeologist Howard Carte was a wooden chest, tabernacle or reliquary, on a palanquin, in the shape of an Egyptian temple pylon (trapezoidal entrance) and surmounted by a statue of Anubis in the form of a jackal. Inside the chest, some objects such as statuettes, amulets, jewellery, mummy figurines and other objects of uncertain function were found in drawers.
