Description
Model of the Castle of Cuellar, made of marble reconstituted with resin.
Measurements: 19 x 19 x 6 cm.
Cuéllar Castle, Segovia. The fortress is located on the top of a hill, from which it dominates the town and a large territory. It seems to have been built by Don Beltrán de la Cueva, Duke of Alburquerque, although some parts of the castle may be earlier.
The complex, which is quadrangular in shape, with three cylindrical cubes and another square one at the corners, preserves the shields of Don Beltrán and Doña MarÃa de Mendoza, his first wife, on the oldest parts, which can therefore be dated between 1464 and 1476.
The rest belong to the refurbishment carried out in the 16th century, to which we owe the courtyard with a two-storey gallery, the one that opens on the south façade, with arches identical to those of the courtyard, and several rooms with interesting wooden ceilings.
