Head of Budha. The origin of the image of the crowned and bejeweled Budha is the Oriental School of Medieval art, which has exercised the minds of scholars as, at first sight, this image represents a deviation from the tradition of Orthodox art in which Budha, in human form, appeared invariably without ornaments and without jewels. On the other hand, since the Bodhisattva strippeded him of his garments by adopting for the first time the ascetic life, several scholars indicate that such representation should be considered non canonical or orthodox.Â
