The Discophoros was a bronze sculpture by the Greek sculptor Polykleitos, creator of the Doryphoros and the Diadumenos. It dates from 450-440 BC.
Like the Doryphoros and Diadumenos, it was created as an example of Polykleitos’ canon of the ideal human form in sculpture. It depicts a young, muscular, solidly built athlete in a moment of reflection ready to throw the discus.
