Bust of Caracalla (son of Emperor Septimius Severus) in bronze on marble base.
Marcus Aurelius Severus Antoninus (188 – 217), went down in history as Caracalla, due to his use of a long hooded tunic, to the point that the name Caracalla became official among his legions. The son of Septimius Severus, he was made Caesar when the latter seized power, and later co-emperor with his brother Geta, whom he killed. He was killed by a conspirator and succeeded by his nephew Heliogabalus.
