Publius Elius Hadrian (76 AD – 138), born in Italica (Santiponce, Seville), in the province of Baetica, contributed greatly to the expansion and construction of the Roman Empire. He reformed and reorganised the imperial administration, was noted for his promotion of culture and received the honorary title of “pater patriae”. He was the third of the “five good emperors”.
