Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (37 AD – 68 AD) was the last emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, successor of his uncle Claudius, who adopted him. The character of his reign is nowadays a matter of controversy, the sources of the time (Suetonius, Tacitus) describe him as a tyrant, causing the execution of his mother Agrippina and his half-brother Britannicus, and other characters such as the philosopher Seneca.
