Bust of Don Quixote. The sculpture we present is one of the most beautiful creations about the mythical figure of Don Quixote of La Mancha. His serene yet deep gaze, dreamy and enamored, expresses his ideal of “walking through a world of iron to turn it into a world of gold.”

The immortal novel by Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616), “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha,” is considered the masterpiece par excellence of Spanish literature. It was published in two parts, the first in 1605 and the second in 1615.

In this novel, the adventures of a nobleman who, driven mad by reading chivalric novels, becomes a knight-errant to fight injustice and aid the defenseless are narrated. Accompanied by his faithful squire Sancho Panza, Don Quixote sets out on the roads in search of justice and honor, inspired by his love for Dulcinea del Toboso, an idealized peasant woman; but his madness repeatedly clashes with reality, attacking windmills taken for giants and suffering mockery and mistreatment from others on numerous occasions.

Through Don Quixote‘s noble madness, Cervantes satirizes the society of his time, exploring themes such as reality and illusion, identity, and madness. Considered in its time as a mere entertainment work, its profound philosophical significance was later recognized in subsequent centuries. The idealism of its character and the symbolism contained in the work have inspired later generations, leaving an indelible mark on world literature.
