In Greek mythology, Zeus (also known as the god Jupiter to the Romans) was the ruler of Olympus. Zeus is the most important deity in the entire Greek pantheon. He was known as the father of the gods, ruler of mortals and immortals, the one before whom all creatures, human and divine, submit. His sphere of influence is the sky in all its manifestations: light, clouds, storms and thunder. Bearing his sceptre and his thunderbolt, and seated on his throne, Zeus rules the destinies of the universe, sometimes benevolent, sometimes implacable.
