The god Ares (Mars in Roman culture) is the god of war, courage and self-improvement.
Ares had a chariot thrown by four immortal stallions with gold bridles that breathed fire. Among the other gods, Ares was renowned for his bronze armor and for the spear he wielded in battle. His favorite animal was the dog.
In classical Greek art his usual attributes were a crested helmet and a spear with which he easily defeated his enemies.
