Socrates was an influential Greek philosopher who lived in Athens in the 5th century BCE. Considered one of the founders of Western philosophy, he stood out among his contemporaries for practicing philosophy in the streets and the Athenian agora through the so-called Socratic method, based on dialogue and the pursuit of truth through constant inquiry and questioning. He left no written works, but his legacy lives on through the writings of his disciples, especially Plato. Socrates was characterized by his humility and tireless pursuit of knowledge and virtue. His philosophy emphasized self-knowledge, ethics, and the importance of living a coherent life, which he exemplified in his final moments after being sentenced to death, serving as an example of integrity and strength.
