Sculpture inspired by the figure of Olympia of Epirus, mother of Alexander the Great.
Olympia of Epirus was the first wife of King Philip II of Macedonia and the mother of Alexander the Great. Born around 375 B.C., Olympia was the daughter of the King of Epirus. Her marriage to the Macedonian king placed her at the center of palace politics and intrigues. Known for her intelligence and cunning, Olympia played an essential role in Alexander’s education. Repudiated by Philip II, she was involved in intrigues against Philip’s second wife and the successor to the Macedonian throne after Alexander’s death. She was ultimately assassinated by her enemies at court.
Historical figures have served as a source of inspiration for art from Classical Antiquity to the present day. A figure like this bust of Olympia adds a unique touch of distinction to our favorite corner or workspace, such as a library or an office.
