Lucius Ceionius Commodus Verus Armeniacus (130 AD – 169 AD), commonly known as Lucius Verus Antoninus, was a Roman co-emperor alongside Marcus Aurelius from 161 until his death. Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus were adoptive sons of Antoninus Pius, appointed by Hadrian, and the first two emperors to rule jointly in the history of Rome.
The rule of the two co-emperors, Lucius Verus Antoninus and Marcus Aurelius, played a crucial role in the period of the Roman Empire in the 2nd century, marking the culmination of the era of stability and splendor characterized by the Antonine Dynasty. Both emperors faced challenges such as the Parthian War and the spread of plagues like the Antonine Plague. Despite adversities, the joint rule of Lucius Verus and Marcus Aurelius helped consolidate imperial power.
