Bust of HermesReproduction of a fragment based on the sculptural ensemble of Hermes with Dionysus by Praxiteles (330 BC, 4th century BC), preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. The original sculpture depicts the god Hermes holding the young Dionysus in one arm.

The Greek god Hermes, known as Mercury in Rome, is the messenger god between the gods of Olympus and mortals. Son of Jupiter and Maia, Hermes-Mercury personifies eloquence and cunning, protector of travelers, and patron of merchants. As a psychopompic god, he guided the souls of the deceased on their journey to the afterlife.

Hermes is often represented as a young figure with wings on his heels or sandals, wearing a broad-brimmed hat, and holding the caduceus in one hand—a staff with two intertwined snakes symbolizing the harmony of opposites and duality, like one who moves between two worlds, the divine and the earthly.

This multifaceted god was invoked by those seeking protection in their travels and business ventures. His agile and versatile energy is reflected in the wings on his feet or boots, representing the swiftness of the wind that conveys the messages of the gods swiftly throughout the cosmos. Hermes stands as the intermediary god between the two worlds, bridging the gap between gods and mortals.

Sculptures inspired by ancient, Renaissance, or neoclassical art become focal pieces that stand out in the decoration of our homes. Mythological motifs such as gods or heroes, like this bust of Hermes, blend with other decorative elements, transforming spaces such as the living room, office, or library into a special and inspiring corner.
