Reproduction of a sculpture representing Ariadne, made from an original work sculpted by the Italian artist Leone Clerici (late 19th century). The god Dionysus fell in love with the beautiful Ariadne (daughter of King Minos) and took her to Olympus. It is a symbol of the love between the divine and the human.
Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos of Crete. Upon the arrival of a group of Athenians offered as tribute to Crete, to be sacrificed to the Minotaur, Ariadne offered her help to the Athenian prince Theseus to escape the Labyrinth once he had defeated the monster. For this, Ariadne gave him a ball of wool, whose thread Theseus had to unwind from the entrance, in order to find the way out again. However, despite her help, after leaving Crete, Theseus abandoned Ariadne on the island of Naxos. One day, Dionysus and his retinue appeared on the island. Upon seeing Ariadne, the god of wine and enthusiasm fell in love with her, marrying her and elevating her to Olympus.
Reproductions of classical statues representing mythological figures, like this bust of Ariadne, add an elegant touch to home decor, helping us evoke and bring to our days the myths of ancient Greece.
