Titus Fulvius Boionius Arrius Aurelius Antoninus Pius, known as Antoninus Pius (86-161 AD), ruled the Roman Empire from 138 to 161 AD. He was the fourth of the Five Good Emperors. He belonged to the gens Aurelia. Successor to Hadrian, Antoninus’ rule marked a period of stability in the Roman Empire, characterized by efficient administration, financial recovery, and respect for institutions such as the Senate. Antoninus Pius is also known for his love for his wife Faustina, to whom he dedicated a temple after her death. Emperor-philosopher Marcus Aurelius succeeded him upon his death. His reign is considered a time of relative calm and prosperity in Roman history, and his legacy endures as an example of good governance.
