The compass changed the world of exploration and discovery. The Chinese began the principle of the magnetic needle to used in the 3rd centuries BC. The Feng Shui monks used this needle with the aim to specify where and how to build, and the Chinese mariners started to use it for navigation at the 10th century to hold the course. The Arabs perfected the compass in which they mounted it on an axis and then comb the compass in the 11th century to Europe, where it was made possible to navigate through the seas and oceans. The first instrument which is similar to the today’s compass was invented by the Portuguese Ferrande 1483.
