Hermes in Greek mythology is the son of Zeus and the nymph Maya, the messenger and herald of the gods, who guides the guests on Olympus, who accompanies the heroes on their adventures and who communicates divine messages to mortals. Consequently, he is also the patron god of travellers, as well as of merchants, thieves and swindlers. Hermes is especially the conductor of souls. As such, he leads the deceased from life to death.
