Recreation of the “Mouth of Truth“, a famous relief that can be found in Rome, in the Piazza della Bocca della Verità , on the left side wall of the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin.
Its function is not known, nor who it represented, probably Neptune. Since the Middle Ages, numerous legends have grown up around this original relief, telling how the mouth detected lies and bit the hand of liars and infidels when they put it into the opening of the statue.
