Bas-relief “Victorious Athlete”. In the image, a young man holds a hoop (balance) and a rooster (victory). Interpreted as an athlete, the relief is inspired by an Attic red-figure pottery crater.
The original piece is a Greek crater dated between 500-490 BC, which is located in the Louvre Museum. It is believed to represent Ganymede holding a hoop, symbol of youth, and a rooster, a gift from Zeus.
Ceramics were introduced in Greece in the late 3rd millennium BC, likely from the Near East. The forms evolved until reaching the style of red-figure pottery in classical Greece, as we can appreciate in this relief interpretation of a 5th century BC Attic crater.
The incorporation of reproductions of classical reliefs in interior decoration brings elegance and culture to our homes. These reliefs, with their motifs inspired by ancient Greek mythology, impart a sense of nobility to our favorite corners. By combining these pieces with the rest of the décor in the living room, office, or library, we create a visual harmony that highlights both the beauty of the reliefs and the ambiance that surrounds them.
In the living room, reliefs can serve as decorative elements, highlighting one of the walls or complementing the overall aesthetics of the room. In offices and libraries, these pieces blend in with shelves, adding a touch of distinction to the room’s decoration. Their versatility allows them to be combined with contemporary design, engaging in a fascinating dialogue between modern style and the timelessness of classical art.
