Description
Triptych, set of three bas-reliefs in moulded alabaster, with oil polychromy and age patinas. Frames in gilded wood with estofados.
Measurements: Height: 101 cm. Width: 260 cm. Depth: 6 cm.
Polychrome bas-reliefs inspired by paintings by the Neoclassical sculptor and painter Antonio Canova (1757-1822), known above all for his sculptures with pure, clean lines.
At the end of the 18th century, he painted a series of frescoes in tempera decorating the walls of his house with themes inspired by classical Greco-Roman mythology (nymphs, muses, lovers, dancers). They are scenes painted without perspective, with stylised figures dressed in insinuating veils.
