Reproduction of an Egyptian bas-relief from the Lower Period (11th-4th centuries BC) representing the gods Isis, Horus, Osiris and Thot. The original is in the Cairo Museum.
Four of the principal gods of Ancient Egypt appear in this sculpture: the Osirian Triad, composed of the god Osiris, his sister and wife Isis, and their son Horus. In front of them is the god Thot.
They are depicted from left to right:
- Isis, goddess of motherhood, life and magic. She is represented with the throne or stairs above her head.
- Horus, with the head of a falcon and the double royal crown of Lower and Upper Egypt, is the protector god of royalty.
- Osiris, god of fertility, death and resurrection, king of the Beyond and judge in the Judgement of the souls. He appears mummified and wearing the white crown.
- Thot, with the head of an ibis, is the god of wisdom and writing, protector of the scribes.
