Hippocrates of Cos (460 B.C. – 370 B.C. approx.), is considered as the “Father of Medicine“, which he turned into a profession.
Democritus of Abdera (460 B.C. – 370 B.C. approx.), a philosopher considered to be the “Father of Physics“, he devised an elementary constituent unit of matter which he called “atom”.
Euclid (325 B.C. – 265 B.C. approx.), a mathematician who lived in Alexandria, was called the “Father of Geometry“. His work “Elements” are the basis of Arithmetic, Geometry and Algebra in the West.
Archimedes of Syracuse (287 B.C. – 212 B.C. approx.), mathematician, astronomer, physicist, engineer and inventor, developed the principle that bears his name on hydrostatic thrust.
Pythagoras (569 BC – 475 BC), a philosopher considered the first pure mathematician, gave his name to the famous theorem on the relationship between the sides of right angles and established the basis of Western music.
Thales of Miletus (624 BC – 546 BC approx.) a philosopher, mathematician, physicist and lawmaker, is credited with the theorem that bears his name, as well as being considered the first philosopher of the West.
