Homer (8th century BC), the first Greek poet with a known name, author of the two oldest epic poems in the West: the Iliad and the Odyssey.
Hesiod (8th-7th century BC), the other great archaic Greek poet, author of Theogony, where he recounts the genealogy of the gods.
Aeschylus (525-524 BC – 456-455 BC) was the first great Greek playwright. Among his tragedies, the Orestiad stands out, the only trilogy that has been completely preserved from the theatre of ancient Greece.
Sophocles (496 BC – 406 BC), the tragic Athenian poet who wrote works such as Oedipus Rex and Antigone, which have influenced Western theatre to this day.
Euripides (484 BC – 406 BC), the third of the great tragic poets of Ancient Greece, whose works include Medea and The Trojans.
Aristophanes (444 BC – 385 BC), satirical playwright, author of comedies such as The Clouds, in which he ridicules the philosopher Socrates, or Lysistrata.
