Description
Model of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris made of marble reconstituted with resin.
Measurements: 15 x 9 x 15 cm.
The Arc de Triomphe de l’Etoile is one of the most emblematic monuments of the French capital. It was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to provide the city with a symbol of imperial capital status.
When only five metres high had been erected, the death of the architect and the Emperor’s military reverses brought the work to a standstill, delaying its completion until 1836. The architectural work is complemented by a rich sculptural decoration in which the caryatids, the high reliefs, the frieze of the cornice and especially the group of the Marseillaise, created by Rude in 1836, stand out.
