The sculpture of the Apollo of Belvedere, also called the Apollo Pythian, is a famous marble statue from Classical Antiquity. It was rediscovered in the late 15th century, during the Renaissance, and was exhibited in the courtyard of the Vatican Belvedere, from where it takes its name. Since the mid-18th century, it was considered by Neoclassicism as the best sculpture of Antiquity, which they took as a model, and for centuries it was considered the ideal of aesthetic perfection of Western European culture.

In Greek and Roman mythology, Apollo is one of the most important and multifaceted Olympian gods. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin brother of the virgin huntress Artemis. Represented in iconography as the ideal of the kouros (beardless youth), Apollo was revered in ancient Greece and Rome as the god of light and the sun, truth and prophecy, inspiring and conveying messages through the Pythia at the oracle of Delphi. He is also the patron of medicine and healing, of the arts in general and particularly music and poetry, appearing accompanied by the 9 muses. His attributes are the bow and arrows, the lyre, the laurel wreath, and his symbolic animals, the crow and the snake, linked with medicine.

Reproductions of classical sculptures of gods, goddesses, and heroes of Antiquity, such as this Apollo of Belvedere head, are an elegant and timeless way to add a touch of sophistication to the decoration of our home.
