Although we called it ring, it is based on the principle of the equatorial sun quadrant (the universal type). It was used a lot during the eighteenth century. Operation: Place the ring on the latitude of the place, disengage the time ring perpendicular to the meridian ring. Align the top of the ring to the south. The small cylinder in the corresponding month placed and rotate the ruler toward the sun, the light ray shines through the opening gives us the daylight hours in the time ring.
