Recreation in framed relief, inspired by the sculpture “Achilles wounded” by the Italian sculptor Inocencio Fraccaroli (1805 – 1882), modelled by our craftsmen from the original work on display in the Galleria d’Arte Moderna (Milan).
Achilles was the most famous of the Greek heroes, the protagonist of the Iliad, son of the Titaness Thetis and the mortal king Peleus, and great-grandson of Zeus. According to the poets after Homer, Thetis anointed her son with ambrosia, and then held him over the fire to make him immortal, although the legend later became famous of his immersion in the Styx by his mother to make him invulnerable, with only his heel remaining out of the water, which became his weak point. Achilles, the personification of the perfect Greek warrior, was usually depicted as a young man with a slender figure, a beautiful face and Herculean forms, strong and agile.
