John Williams Waterhouse was born in 1849 in Rome. He was closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood in England. His painting has a strong inclination towards the classical world. Greek myths and legends, undines and silenes, medieval ladies and gentlemen. An idealisation of the world that inclines towards aesthetic sensitivity.
