Lord Frederick Leighton was born in England in 1830 and died in 1896.
He was President of the Royal Academy for nearly two decades during which he achieved great prestige. He is one of the greatest exponents of the Victorian school. As a classical painter he created images with a good finish, he was also a great portrait painter.
In his works the human figure is represented with a great vivacity and expression that transmits a wide range of emotions to the viewer.
