Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema (1836-1912). Born in Dronrijp, the Netherlands, his original name is Lorens Tadema. Naturalized English at the age of 43. Victorian painter of portraits and everyday scenes of life in ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and Rome. His paintings are characterised by a great sensuality and aesthetics. His researchs on archaeology were reflected in his canvases, they still serve as inspiration today for directors of Hollywood and prestigious decorators who seek the Greek and Roman evocation in the creation of environments.Â
