Among the many myths and symbols of classical antiquity, one of the ones that has accompanied me most throughout my life is that of the Greek goddess Athena.
It is from Athena (Minerva in Rome) that the name Athens comes from, as she is its patron goddess, and she had a very interesting double meaning.
On the one hand, she embodied the virtue of wisdom, and therefore the serenity and depth of those who have made reflection and discernment the guide for their actions. One of her symbols is the owl with its large, open eyes that see in the dark night.
On the other hand, she was the goddess of war, of courageous action, of the will to face conflict and emerge strengthened from combat. We often see her accompanied by her shield and spear. The war that Athena represents is waged in a unique place, for it must take place within us, rather than outside with other people. A battle between our weaknesses and our strengths, with the guidance of the wisdom that illuminates the steps of those who know how to recognise what is good.
Strange duality: wisdom and war; discernment and courage; reflection and action.
The image of Athena as a symbol, of this and many other reflections, always inspired me the necessary balance we need in life, and drove me to the conquest of my better nature, which I associate with the conquest of true happiness.
May wisdom and courage be with you.
Be happy
